Visiting a new dentist can feel uncertain, particularly if you are nervous, have not attended for some time or are concerned about the condition of your teeth.
This guide explains how to book and what you can normally expect at your first appointment with Elite Dental Studio in Tilbury.
Are You Accepting New Patients?
We welcome new private patients and adults who would like to join our dental membership.
We are not currently accepting new NHS adult patients. However:
New NHS patients under 17 are accepted
One-off NHS urgent appointments may be available for non-patients experiencing dental pain
Availability and eligibility should be confirmed with our reception team when booking.
How Do I Book My First Appointment?
You can book online or contact the practice on 01375 852044.
When using the online booking system, select the appropriate private-patient service and choose an available date and time. You will then be asked to enter your contact details so the booking can be confirmed.
If you are experiencing pain, swelling, dental trauma or another urgent problem, contact the practice directly so our team can advise you about the most appropriate appointment.
What Should I Tell the Practice Beforehand?
Please let us know if you:
Feel anxious about dental treatment
Have accessibility or communication requirements
Require additional support
Are experiencing pain or swelling
Have a complex medical history
Take regular medication
Have allergies or have previously reacted to dental treatment or medicines

What Happens During a New-Patient Examination?

The soft tissues inside your mouth
Areas causing pain, sensitivity or concern

Will Treatment Be Completed at the First Visit?
The main purpose of a new-patient examination is to assess your oral health and understand your priorities.
Simple urgent treatment may sometimes be possible, but this depends on the problem, the available appointment time and what is clinically appropriate.

The available treatment options
The benefits, limitations and relevant risks
The likely number of appointments
The proposed fees
You will have an opportunity to ask questions before deciding whether to proceed. Treatment should not begin without your agreement.
What If I Feel Nervous?
Dental anxiety is common, and you will not be judged for feeling nervous or for delaying an appointment.
Tell the reception team when booking and remind your dentist at the start of the visit. It may help to agree on a signal for pausing, ask for explanations before each stage and take the appointment at a pace you can manage.
You remain in control and can ask the clinician to stop at any point.
What If I Have Not Seen a Dentist for Several Years?
You can still arrange an examination.
Avoiding care because you feel embarrassed can allow manageable problems to become more difficult. The purpose of the appointment is to assess your current oral health and discuss appropriate next steps- not to criticise you for the past.
